Swarrnim Startup and Innovation University, NIF & PTN News collaborate to make record for World’s Largest Traditional Navratri Costume
Gujarat CM Shri Bhupendra Patel made a special visit and appreciated the installation
Gandhinagar, October 14, 2024: Swarrnim Startup and Innovation University, in collaboration with the NIF Global Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar and PTN News, has bagged a world record for creating and installing the world’s largest Chaniya Choli. The Chaniya Choli is a skirt and blouse paired with a dupatta which makes a quintessentially traditional attire for women during Navratri revelry. The beautiful attire is a spectacular display of creativity that showcases Gujarat’s cultural pride. Gujarat CM Shri Bhupendra Patel made a special visit to the venue earlier this week, and appreciated the beautiful installation.
A group of some 60 students from Gandhinagar as well as Ahmedabad joined hands to design the stunning and impressive piece of attire. The installation was unveiled recently at ‘Khelaiya Navratri 2024’ celebrations held at Shriyam Party Plot in Bhadaj. The beautiful display stands bright as a 72-feet tall structure.
The three organisations have jointly received the certificate from the World Book of Records, London.
Mr Rishabh Jain, President of Swarrnim Startup and Innovation University, expressed his delight at the students’ achievement.
“This project stands as a true reflection of the passion and innovation we nurture at Swarrnim Startup and Innovation University. Our students’ dedication and their ability to blend tradition with creativity has resulted in something beautifully magnificent. This Chaniya Choli is not only a symbol of Navratri, the rich textile heritage of India and a peek into the limitless potential of young minds. We are proud to have made this significant contribution to the cultural festivities of Ahmedabad,” Mr Rishabh Jain said.
The installation took about 32 days to complete. Some 3,000+ metre fabric, which is equivalent to some 500 sarees in length and width went into the creation of the installation, which alone weighs about 500kg. The entire costume is made of cotton and georgette fabrics, and it demonstrates traditional craftsmanship with a modern touch of design sensibilities, reflecting both Gujarat’s rich cultural heritage and the innovative spirit of the students.
After procuring the fabric, students carefully sorted the sarees based on the requirements of the design of the Chaniya Choli and eventually stitched them together to form a massive fabric, from which the garment was eventually made. The technical expertise and finesse of students’ work in stitching and putting together the massive apparel with its craft and intricacies intact is indeed worthy of appreciation.
