World Water Day today; UNESCO Report generates alarm for India

Today on 22nd March being World Water Day is celebrated every year. Alarms for India have been raised by UNESCO report.

 

Predictions are made for intensified water crisis in India by 2050, with many parts of central India battling a withdrawal of 40 % of the renewable surface water resources.

CPCB The Central Pollution Control Board has doubled the figure of ‘polluted’ rivers from 121 to 275 in the last 5 years.

The board evaluated 275 rivers in 29 states through 1,275 monitoring stations on the basis of their biochemical oxygen demand.
