US President Barack Obama is vacationing with his family at Massachusetts island. While talking to media Obama said Iraq had made important strides toward rebuffing fighters from the Islamic State, an al-Qaeda offshoot, since the United States authorized air strikes last week.
Obama urged quick formation of government to address the immediate needs of all Iraqis.
Even Obama’s comments and a congratulatory telephone call he made to Iraqi Prime Minister-designate Haider al-Abadi signal the administration’s expectation.
Obama urged Abadi to quickly form a new government voicing Iraq’s different ethnic and religious communities. Obama said challenge ahead is to regain the confidence of its citizens by good governing and by taking steps to demonstrate its resolve.
