Obama administration has stated it is pleased with the court’s ruling based on its determination, welcoming the dismissal of a lawsuit against Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the 2002 Gujarat riots case. Reacting on court’s decison State Department spokesperson said “We are pleased”.
On Wednesday, US District Judge Analisa Torres of the Southern District, New York dismissed a lawsuit filed against Modi by a rights group for his alleged role in the communal riots, upholding the Obama administration’s stance that he enjoys immunity as a sitting head of a foreign government.
