Today Surat Collector Mahendra Patel following order of Gujarat High Court order and hearing management of Asaram Ashram at Jahangirpura area has penalised with Rs 17.34 crores penalty. The penalty was imposed for encroaching public land and land of some farmers in 24,000 sq meters for 14 years from 1996 to 2010.
One Ashram management had paid Rs 30 lakhs penalty and moved High Court that they were given opportunity to submit their plea.
Then Collector of Surat Rajendra Prasad has imposed a penalty of Rs 17.34 crores to Ashram management for enchroachment.
