Supreme Court Stayed ban on Padmaavat film
Today Supreme Court stayed the ban on Bollywood movie Padmaavat, in 6 states. The court said that states must ensure law and order is maintained and they cannot ban the film citing it as a problem. States are constitutionally obliged to maintain law and order and prevent any untoward incident during the screening of the film across the country, the bench observed.
“If we go by this (arguments levelled against films), 60 % of literature, even classical literature of India cannot be read,” chief justice of India said during the hearing.
Six state Governments including Haryana, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttarakhand had banned screening of the movie. Film is slated for release on January 25.
