Today Home ministry has decided to withdraw SPG cover of Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi. They will now get Z-plus security cover by CRPF.

There was a clear threat to the Gandhi family, in which has lost two family member and Prime Ministers to terror attacks. The decision of the Government to reduce their security cover looks politically motivated and putting their lives at risk.The SPG was set up in 1985 after the assassination of Prime Minister of India Indira Gandhi.SPG Security Cover To Gandhis was Withdrawn by Downgrading their security To ‘Z+’.The MHA in August this year stripped former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh of his SPG security cover and lowered it to ‘Z+’ security cover. Today the Congress leaders whose SPG security cover was stripped included former party chief Rahul Gandhi, interim party President Sonia Gandhi and party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. The Union government took the decision to withdraw the Gandhi family’s Special Protection Group (SPG) cover after a security assessment. Earlier in 2019, the MHA had stripped former Prime Minister of India Manmohan Singh of his SPG security cover and lowered it to ‘Z+’security cover However, former Prime Minister and BJP leader Atal Bihari Vajpayee were protected by an SPG cover until his death in 2018.
