Today a special anti-corruption court rejected bail plea filed by Sanjay Gupta Ex IAS and ex-chairman of Metrolink Express for Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad (MEGA), in connection with Rs 113-crore alleged scam.
Court refuses bail to Gupta who was arrested in Rs 113-crore scam related to Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar Metro project
Gupta had sought default bail on the ground that the probe agency – CID (crime) failed to file chargesheet against him in stipulated time of 60 days. However, the state government opposed this bail plea by submitting that since section 467 if the IPC has been invoked in this case, the time limit for filing chargesheet is 90 days.
After a prolonged discussion, the court turned down the plea.
Gupta and seven others were charged with corruption by raising false invoices without getting any supplies for filling up the land at Motera and Bhat villages for casting yard and depot prepared for the metro rail project. A technical audit revealed that against MEGA’s claims of 20.67 lakh sq m land filling worth Rs 194.56 crore, work was done over only 9.42 lakh sq m area. Bogus bills for land filling work over 11.24 lakh sq m were allegedly cleared. The value of this material, according to the prescribed rates, comes to Rs 113.22 crore, the prosecution contended.
