Sanjay Dutt, who is out of jail on a 14-day furlough, now wants this to be extended by another 14 days. He has been out of the Yerwada jail since December 24, 2014 as he wanted to bring in the New Year with his family. His initial leave of two weeks ends on Thursday. The Bollywood actor was out once to treat his knee, on the other occasion to take care of his hospitalised wife and look after his twin toddlers.“Sanjay Dutt has filed for an extension, but we are yet to receive clearance from the Mumbai police,” Rajendra Dhamane, deputy inspector general (prisons).
The Supreme Court in a statement convicted the Bollywood actor for illegal possession of arms in connection with the 1993 Mumbai blasts case and had sentenced him to six years imprisonment. This is not the first time Dutt has asked for – and received – an extension of his leave. In October 2013, Dutt was granted furlouh which was extended by 14 days. Then, in December 2013, he was granted parole for 30 days, which again was extended twice.Recently, the state government said it would probe the repeated granting of furlough to Dutt after receiving repeated complaints on the same.
