It is illegal to stand on the road, there is not any order to allowing hawkers to stand on humanitarian grounds. If there is a restaurant of NonVeg on the main road, they will not close it. If it is to be done, an order is required. Lorry laying on sidewalks is a kind of land grabbing in itself. Veg and Nonveg makes any kind of street food which causes trouble to the passers-by. It causes eye irritation due to smoke and spices. Mayors of Rajkot and Vadodara have issued such orders, not humanity, there is a complete law in the country for street vendors. Each organization also has its own policy as per the order of the Supreme. We are more excited to close business of those poor street vendor hawkers.
Revenue Minister Rajendra Trivedi has made a big statement in this regard. He said lorries of NonVeg on roads in the state are similar to temporary land grabbing. This is a long-term issue. Doing business by standing anywhere on the road is not proper.they should buy shop and do business. During the program in Kutch, state Revenue Minister lauded tsteps taken by the municipality not to sell Eggs and NonVeg lorries in public in Vadodara and Rajkot and also advocated strict action for the same.
Revenue Minister is adamant on his statement regarding lorries parked on the road. He also said during a program in Vadodara today that no one has right to do business on the sidewalk. The pressure of lorry on road is similar to land grabbing. People are harmed by smoke from Nonveg and Veg lorries. It must be removed.
Order of Gujarat High Court after hearing the PIL Public Interest Litigation regarding problems faced by Street Vendors. On Policy of Street Vendors The High Court disposed off the petition saying that there was nothing left in the petition as there were rules made on the basis of merit. Matter is old which has been heard. If the Government of Gujarat wants to place an order, it applies to all hawkers, not just NonVeg lorries. The petition was filed in Kutch district alleging that the state government had not implemented the Street Vending Act.
In a detailed affidavit submitted by state government, information was submitted to the court. Government has taken steps for migrant workers, street vendors and also launched UWin Portal. Rules have also come into force with the Street Vending Act, under which 56 provisional committees will be constituted. Town planning committee, which may also include members of civil society, may have elected members from 40 % of street vendors. The constituted committees will issue a certificate to street vendors, through which the benefits of each government scheme will be given to street vendors. Benefits of loan, financial assistance, availing of health facilities etc. through the certificate will be given.
