Today in Rajkot tragedy that shook Gujarat, mass suicide attempt of eight members of the same family in financial crisis is alarming said Gujarat Congress Media Convener and Spokesperson Dr. Manish Doshi.
Amid Rising Disparity in the blind race of development, more than 17 families have committed Mass Suicide in Gujarat in last 15 months and more than 22 Mass Suicides have been attempted. Economic Hardship, Rising Disparity, Social Insecurity, Fear, Interest-laden debts, compelled borrower families to shorten their lives collectively. It is a matter of concern for Dynamic – Progressive Gujarat. In year 2022, 1,70,000 citizens have committed suicide in India, out of which 1/3rd about 55,000 suicides include Daily Wages, Agricultural Laborers and Farmers. Total 25841 people have committed suicide from Gujarat in 3 years. An average of 25 people commit suicide per day.
According to NCRB National Crime Records Bureau Report, 8050 people committed suicide in 2020, 8789 in 2021 and 9002 in 2022 respectively. Figure of suicides is increasing alarmingly. Figure of suicides in 2022 was 10 % higher than in 2020.
In year 2022, the most 2285 people committed suicide due to Family Problems, 1747 due to Illness, 367 due to Marriage. Figure of housewives committing suicide is 1761. Vendors/hawkers – Lorry – Pathranawala – Daily Wages suicide cases have increased by 50.44 % . In last 6 years, 16862 Daily Wages have committed suicide due to Financial Crisis, Social Insecurity, Decreasing Income and Rising Expenses. Situation of Workers from Unorganized Sector is very grim.
In Gujarat, 3740 students have committed suicide in last 5 years. In last 6 years, more than 68013 students in India committed suicide due to reasons including Fear of Studies, Economic Disparity, Caste Discrimination, Failure in Exams. More than 35 students commit suicide every day, means 2 students are committing suicide every 1 or 2 hours.

17 incidents of Mass Suicides from 17 different families of a father and 3 children in recent times reveal reality of Social and Economic alarming picture of Gujarat. Increasing figure of suicides in Gujarat is alarming.
In order to save lives of citizens of Gujarat who are forced to end up their lives under pressure of increasing Financial Crisis, Social Insecurity, Debt, BJP government will show Sensitivity with seriousness and actively work with support from expert from Social, Economic, Psychologists and Educational Institutions, human lives can be prevented from committing Suicide.
