The Raj Thackeray’s Maharashtra Navnirman Sena MNS has cautioned theatres against screening Gujarati and other regional language films during prime time. Thackeray said that the slots should have been assigned to Marathi films. Recently, MNS workers protested against the screening of Gujjubhai the Greatat Sona Gold Cinema in Borivali, which has a large Gujarati-speaking population in Mumbai.
The MNS, has refocused its attention on the Marathi pride campaign.”The protest at Sona theatre is just a begining. We will continue our protest against screening of Gujarati films and regional language movies other than Marathi during prime time,” said secretary of MNS.The agitation will not be restricted to the suburbs or the city. It will cover the entire Mumbai. If theatres and multiplexes defy our diktat, we will start a new protest in MNS way. Theatre owners have questioned the logic of the diktat.
