The Supreme Court will hear a plea seeking cancellation of anticipatory bail granted to deceased actress Pratyusha Banerjee’s boyfriend Rahul Raj Singh on May 30. Banerjee’s parents on May 14 approached the apex court against the granting of bail to Rahul. In their petition filed before the apex court, her parents alleged that the High Court had granted relief to Singh and that he can tamper with the evidence. They sought custodial interrogation of Singh contending that there were several deep injury marks on her body.
The High Court had on April 25 granted anticipatory bail to Rahul who has denied the allegations levelled against him. The parents also approached Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh in this regard and requested him to get the matter investigated by another agency. Reacting to this, Pratyusha Banerjee’s mother Soma Banerjee said that they were waiting for the response and hoped that the case was properly investigated by the agency. Reportedly, the 24-year-old actress was in debt and used to often remain under the influence of alcohol.
On April 1, Pratyusha, who shot to fame for her role as Anandi in ‘Balika Vadhu’, allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself inside her flat in suburban Goregaon. Two days later, a case under IPC Sections 306 (abetment of suicide), 504, 506 (criminal intimidation), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) of IPC was registered against Rahul following a complaint lodged by the actress’s parents.
