Today Amit Shah Union Home Minister announced renaming of Port Blair, the capital of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, as Sri Vijaya Puram. The renaming was done to “free India from colonial imprints” as part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision. Shah said renaming done to realise PM’s vision to shed colonial legacy on our country. Port Blair was named after British colonial navy official of East India Company. In 2018, PM Modi renamed 3 islands of Andaman and Nicobar Islands
