Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Mumbai and Raigad. Modi laid foundation stones for multi-product SEZ and Port Connectivity Highway Project at the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust in Raigad district, project costs Rs 4000 crores and Rs 19000 crores respectively . Launch of JNPT SEZ will generate around 150,000 jobs. Shipping ministry plans to execute the project in the engineering, procurement and construction mode through a specialised vehicle. This project is part of the Centre’s National Highway Development & Port Connectivity Programme. Launch of this two projects came up strategically just ahead of polls in Maharashtra.

While speaking on the occasion Modi said the “Sagarmala” project for maritime states would not merely mean development of ports, but an overall development. Nitin Gadkari added that the Konkan would drive future growth and assured priority to “bhoomiputras” by  employment generation in SEZ.
