On Thursady in Ahmedabad, Gujarat high court asked the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) to define ‘low quality’ plastic cups after a few plastic cup manufacturers questioned the civic body policy to raid and fine the dealers for “poor quality plastic cups”.
The manufacturers have argued that the minimum limit of manufacturing such plastic cups is 40 micron, but they manufacture such plastic with 65 micron. When they follow the norms and even the green signal from the Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB), such raids and fine on dealers have adversely affected their business.
These manufacturers have requested HC intervention in resolving the issue. In response, the high court has asked AMC to come up with a clarification on what should be considered low quality plastic cups.
