In Ahmedabad, a Press meet was held by Pharmac India 2016 Exhibition Committee and IDMA (Indian Drug Manufacturers Association) to inform the 7th edition of Pharmac India, one of India’s largest exhibitions of pharmaceutical machinery, equipment, bulk drugs, active pharmaceutical ingredients, pharma lab, packaging and material will be on from Oct 13 to 15 at the University Convention Centre, Ahmedabad.
Organized by Orbit Exhibitions Pvt. Ltd. and Indian Drug
Manufacturers’ Association, over 150 exhibitors, 6,000 industry
visitors and international delegations from Nigeria, Afghanistan,
Bangladesh and China will participate this year. The primary aim of
this exhibition is to provide opportunities to the small and medium
enterprises engaged in pharmaceuticals in Gujarat and serve as a
platform to grab the emerging opportunities.
Pharmac India is a one-stop destination for all stakeholders of the
sector to watch out for the latest trends, technologies and
innovation. This is a veritable platform to forge crucial networking
and discussions with top level government officials and industry
bodies on crucial laws, rules and issues and tap newer geographies to
foray into.
“In the wake of recent announcements on the roll out of the Goods and Services Tax, the Gujarat pharmaceuticals industry is anticipating a sense of optimism touching the sector. Pharmac India this year will see discussions on this and lay threadbare of what is to come. We see this as an opportunity for sure. As India moves towards the GST regime, a level playing field and smooth taxation norms will give a major boost to greenfield and brownfield investments,” said Viranchi Shah, President, Indian Drug Manufacturers Association.
The overall Indian domestic pharmaceuticals market is pegged at about Rs. 1 lakh crore. Exports from the country stand at Rs. 1 lakh crore approximately. By 2025, the market is slated to touch $100 billion. About Rs.60,000 crore or 30% of the market value of products are being manufactured in Gujarat of which Rs. 28,000 crore are worth of exports (28%) and Rs. 32,000 crore (32%) is contributed by the domestic state market.
There are about 775 pharmaceuticals units in the state.
“The 7th edition of Pharmac India promises to bring global interests
in pharmaceuticals together. Orbit Exhibitions will pull all stops to
make the exhibition arena seamless and relevant. There will be corners dedicated to specific subjects and for the industry, we will make it as holistic as possible,” Rupen Vikamsey, Managing Director, Orbit Exhibitions.
Gujarat contributed up to 40% of the national production of
pharmaceuticals, until tax incentives in certain states change the
rules of the game. The contribution then reduced to about 30%, mainly due to skewed tax structure. The GST regime is expected to nullify this imbalance and provide a level playing field.
“The Gujarat government is already making efforts to attract new
investments, and IDMA is playing a role to attract national and
international entrepreneurs to Gujarat. The state boasts of
industry-trained manpower, allied industries and entrepreneurial
capabilities. Pharmac India will uphold all of this and more,” said
Chirag Doshi, Chairman, Pharmac India Exhibition Committee.
On the sidelines, IDMA has lined up seminars on current opportunities and challenges. This will touch subjects like National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority, Food Safety and Standards Authority of India, GST and many others.
