Ahmedabad, October 28, 2024: With a view to promote holistic health and well-being of students, the Navgujarat Group of Colleges has started a regular visit of two prominent counsellors for mental health needs of the students in the campus and also have regular sessions on mental and general health awareness. In line with this, the institution recently hosted two seminars for students. which saw active participation.
Taking cue from the success of these programmes, the institution has now decided to conduct such sessions from time to time for students of all Group colleges, with a view to nurture student wellness and foster a holistic approach to health. Some 5,000 students across all institutes of Navgujarat Group of Colleges are expected to benefit from such an initiative.
The session on mental wellness focussed on critical aspects of mental health, including the importance of awareness, behaviour change, and stigma reduction. It was emphasised the importance of addressing mental health concerns proactively and provided practical guidance on setting realistic health goals to promote long-term mental well being. Students were also encouraged to participate in activities aimed at improving mind-body coordination, further underscoring the connection between mental and physical health.
The session on General Health Awareness focused on the importance of maintaining a sound physical health through regular exercise and a balanced and nutritious diet. Doctor highlighted the vital role of these habits in cultivating a healthy lifestyle, which is bound to enhance students’ quality of life.
Speaking about the initiative, the management mentioned; “In the age of information overload, it is the moral responsibility of an educational institute to ensure that students are made well-aware about the importance of mental health and physical health. With the present habits it is equally critical at a time when unhealthy lifestyle is emerging as the key culprit for several chronic diseases and health conditions.”
