On Saturday night YSR Congress Party MP from Rajampet P V Mithun Reddy was arrested at Chennai airport for assaulting an Air India official last November at Renigunta Airport in Chitoor District in Andhra Pradesh. Chittoor Police had lodged a case against the MP after he and members of his family manhandled, slapped and assaulted the Air India station manager K Rajasekhar on November 27 after AI staff refused them boarding passes as the boarding for the New Delhi flight they were supposed to catch has already closed. The manager in the police complaint stated that the MP was scheduled to catch an Air India flight with his relatives to New Delhi but reached the airport several minutes late. When the Air India staff denied to issue boarding passes as boarding had already been closed, the MP summoned the AI station manager and got into an argument after the latter refused to entertain his plea to hold the flight and let him board. In the heated argument the MP and his relatives assaulted the AI station manager. The airline had also lodged a complaint along with the AI station manager at the Yerpedu police station and an investigation was done based on CCTV footage which recorded the incident. The police took the custody of MP at the Chennai airport. Anticipating that they would foment trouble, 6 YSRCP MLAs were detained as a precaution ahead of the arrest of MP P V Mithun Reddy.
