Lalji Patel Sardar Patel Group (SPG) chief was arrested by Mehsana Local Crime Bracnh (LCB) police late last night from a private hospital here in connection with the violence during April 17 Jail Bharo campaign. He will be produced in a local court this evening.
LCB in-charge Inspector R S Patel today said that the police would seek remand of the SPG leader from the court. ‘We want his remand to interrogate him about various aspects of the violence and the unlawful activities of April 17. We would also inquire him about the funds spent for the program and its sources,’ he said. The LCB inspector said that Lalji Patel would be produced in a local court this evening where the remand would be sought. Meanwhile Lalji Patel told media after his arrest last night that he won’t seek bail in the case. He was seemingly peeved at his late night arrest. He had earlier claimed to surrender yesterday. But he did not turn up before the police. He had sustained injury in the head on April 17 during heavy stone pelting and was admitted to a local hospital since then.
