Rajkot, June 21, 2024: Students, Faculty members and staff of Marwadi University in Rajkot observed International Yoga Day with great enthusiasm on Friday – June 21. The event saw participation from students from across 54 countries including India. Led by the Department of Physical Education & Sports the event, held between 9 am to 11 am at the Inner Seminar Hall of the University campus, featured a series of practical yoga sessions practiced by participants along with enlightening talks by facilitators.
Each year, International Yoga Day adopts a specific theme to focus the celebrations and activities around a particular aspect of yoga. The theme for 2024 is ‘Yoga for Self and Society’. Over the years, yoga has become widely popular worldwide, with millions embracing it to enhance their overall health and mental well-being.
The Yoga Session conducted for the students and faculty members of the university was facilitated by yoga expert Mamtaben Gurutattva . She is a dedicated yoga teacher with at least 7 years of experience and is a certified Yoga Coach associated with Gujarat State Yoga Board. She guided the participants through various yoga postures, focusing on techniques to enhance flexibility, strength, and balance.
In the run up to the International Yoga Day, the university had also organised a yoga exhibition and a special session on Experiencing the five natural Elements for all students and staff members.
The event saw participation of a diverse group of students from 54 countries including South Africa, Uganda, Mozambique, Liberia, Nigeria, Ethiopia, South Sudan, Sudan, Swaziland, Tanzania, Rwanda, Malawi, Zambia, Gambia, Kenya, Burundi, and India come together in the spirit of unity and wellness. The International Yoga Day Celebrations at Marwadi University was a beautiful cultural amalgamation that highlighted the universal appeal of yoga.
Expressing his delight on the successful culmination of the event, Dr R B Jadeja , Pro Vice- Chancellor, Marwadi University, said, “International Yoga Day is the commemoration of the ancient Indian discipline aimed at healthy living. Yoga is not only about physical exercises but also incorporates breathing exercises and mediation. The enthusiastic participation from our fellow Indian and international students at Marwadi University highlights the global relevance of yoga. We are proud to host such an event that not only promotes physical health but also nurtures mental and emotional well-being of our students, faculty and staff members.”
The event concluded with a sense of rejuvenation and a renewed commitment to incorporating the principles of yoga into daily life.
