MakerFest 2018 to start at Ahmedabad University from January 5, 2018
Gearing up to put India and its young ecosystem of innovators, entrepreneurs and creators on the global map once again, Maker Fest 2018 is all set to kick off in Ahmedabad from January 5-7 at Ahmedabad University.
In its fifth year of existence, this Maker Fest promises to showcase a plethora of diverse talent from across the Indian sub-continent, ranging from innovators showcasing their creations in the field of Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, Virtual and Augmented Reality, IoT, Big Data, Design, Art and even Handicraft and Fashion.
Inspired by California’s wildly popular Maker Faire, the Motwani Jadeja Family Foundation (MJFF) based out of Silicon Valley, continues to conceptualise and promote the Maker Fest in Ahmedabad, though this year they do plan to take the property outside of their home state and into other parts of India.
Maker Fest is the Indian continuation of Maker Faire hosted across America, Europe, Africa and Japan. Maker Faire, which launched in California in 2006, now hosts hundreds of thousands attendees.
Stretching from every corner of India, Maker Fest is all about developing a great maker community where people can learn and share their ideas and thoughts about making and creation. Creators, artists and hobbyists from all over the country are invited to present their contemporary application of ideas using the vast ocean of art, science and technology.
Maker Fest welcomes the entire maker community in India to come together to ideate, build and share what they are doing on one common platform.
Like its American counterpart, the Maker Fest celebrates an individual and group DIY (Do It Yourself) mindset by showcasing unique innovations often created in garages by serial makers in their off time. Products and experiments in the fields of Art, Metal, Wood Working, Electronics, Robotics and Textiles will be showcased and the event is designed to encourage full-fledged hands-on participation by attendees and makers alike.
From January 5th to 7th, the grounds at Ahmedabad University will be filled with booths buzzing with activity where selected makers will showcase their projects. There will also be a stage for demonstration and workshops by several members of the Lady Tech Guild from New York, including its founder Annelie Koller to encourage women entrepreneurship and more participation from women in this Maker movement.
“My vision is to catalyse innovation and entrepreneurship in India at the grassroots level. I’ve attended the California Maker Faire with my children for many years so I’ve seen the impact it can have. Maker Faires are filled with people like you and me who are just making things at home and when they get the chance to share their projects and find collaborators, great new products and companies emerge. I am so happy with the way Maker Fest has been accepted in India and the rate at which it has grown. I am looking forward to more interesting projects and products finding their way to life through this upcoming Maker Fest,” said Ms Asha Jadeja Motwani, Maker Fest founder, Visionary, Entrepreneur, Venture Capitalist and Philanthropist.
