In an Exclusive chat with Gujarat Headline, Debutant Director and Writer Monjoy Joy Monjoy, son of veteran romantic Bollywood actor Joy Mukerji of upcoming musical Rom Com Film “Hai Apna Dil Toh Awara” shares about his Film.

How did you have idea of making “Hai Apna Dil Toh Awara” Film?

Three years back one fine night, while playing the keys of my Piano over a glass of Single malt on the rocks. I came across the thought, the very seed that laid the foundation of my very first venture “Hai Apna Dil Toh Awara”. The next morning I was on my desktop striking the words of a story straight from the heart. It took me another two years and 12 drafts to have a draft that I could make into a motion picture filled with music and words. The very first step was to record some music to the story in order to gain the right emotion and mood.

My friend and Composer Ajay Singha after reading the 12th draft knew immediately the sound for needed in the Film, he recorded a track with wonderful Mohit Chauhan and we got the sound that we needed for the Story. I took the draft to my Guru ji Javed SiddiqqiSir who helped me enhance it one step more. The next step was casting. I was looking for fresh talent and some new faces and it did take me six months to finalize the main cast of film.

As I had only my half of the money ready for the film, I started looking for the other half. After a couple of fruitless meetings with some Producers, I met up with a close friend of my younger brother Sujoy Joy Mukerji who believed in the Story, songs and my vision in the very first meeting. The next thing I know that we were busy planning the first schedule and on the morning of 24th of September 2014 we took our very first shot in the area where I stay, Yari road. My younger brother Sujoy worked very hard on the production along with Deepak to see things run smoothly in production.

Tell us something about your Film?

Hai Apna Dil Toh Awara is a slice of life in the lives of three couples who have their own point of views about life and when their thoughts collide, it’s a Bull vs Matador fight to the finish for them. Living life in the metro city can be stressful, expensive and confused. One is often finding himself from room to room. From a match box size apartment to a bigger case apartment. Film tries to explore the complex world of relationships between a man and a woman as it draws inspiration from real life situations of my friends and acquaintances to understand how two lovers can commit themselves to each other for the rest of their lives! Hai Apna Dil Toh Awara is a musical Rom Com which promises to be great fun for the entire family.

Music is soul of the film. Tell something about it.

Music is an essential part of any feature film in the world. Ajay Singha has done a wonderful job with the score. He worked very hard in finding me the correct sound that I needed for the Film. We were very particular in order to find the right key for the Film. Fresh sound, talented Singers and lyricists sum up the Music team for the Film. Mohit Pathak has written some brilliant lyrics and so is Pinky Poonawaala with the title track which was composed by my friend and musician Subash Pradhan. I am blessed to have Deepak and Neha Gupta as my Producers along with me. I dedicate this Film to my late father and my Naana- Naani.

Share your Experience working with the Starcast.

They all are uniquely talented in their own way and bring the right energy that is needed in their parts. All the Guys are brilliantly talented and funny whereas the Girls, besides being charming and talented, bring the perfect balance in their chemistry with the boys.

How do feel reviving your father’s Production House?

Both my father and grandfather have been part of some wonderful and successful Bollywood films and the idea was to carry forward their legacy and work. In 2013, when I released ‘Love In Bombay’ which was my father’s last work, the film did well and that gave me confidence to make this film. We will not be just doing this film, there are two more films in the pipeline and are planning to make more.
