Jaipur to host IndiaSkills Regional Competitions 2018, a Skill India initiative towards India becoming skill capital of world
- 20 youth from Gujarat to compete in a select pool of more than 200 contestants at the 3-day event in the Pink City
- The competition is envisaged to create opportunities for the youth at the regional level and select the best talent to represent India at WorldSkills International Competition 2019
Ahmedabad, May 23, 2018: In a bid to promote international standards in over 40 skills among the youth of the country, National Skills Development Corporation (NSDC) under the aegis of Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) will kick start IndiaSkills Regional Competitions in Jaipur on May 24, 2018. Smt. Vasundhara Raje, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Rajasthan and senior state officials are expected to attend the inauguration of the three-day event in at Jaipur Convention Center. The competition is designed to showcase the highest standards of skills in India and provide a platform for the youth to explore various career opportunities in the skills ecosystem.
More than 200 contestants from Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and Haryana will take part in this 3-day competitions across 24 trades/categories. Winners from the regional competition will compete at the National Competition scheduled in Delhi from 15th to 18th July 2018. The event will commence with a grand opening ceremony, followed by skill competitions and panel discussion on the subsequent days. The event will conclude with a grand closing ceremony on 26th May 2018.
Commenting on the initiatives, Mr. Manish Kumar, MD and CEO, NSDC, said, “Skills form the backbone of all national missions and our country can only grow if its workforce has the best technical and industrial skills. IndiaSkills competitions are designed with an objective to showcase the highest standards of skills in India and motivate youth to consider vocational education as a mainstream career option. The initiative will help us identify the best talent who could represent India at the WorldSkills International Competition and bring laurels to the country.”

The participants at the IndiaSkills Regional Competitions are selected after a rigorous selection process at the district and state level organized by 20 states. The winners from each states will compete in 4 regional competitions scheduled in Jaipur – West (24th to 26th May), Lucknow – North (31st May to 2nd June), Bhubaneswar – East (9th to 11th June) and Bangalore – South (15th to 17th July).
In 2017, India ranked 19 amongst 56 countries who participated at the WorldSkills Competition organized in Abu Dhabi. More than 1300 competitors competed in 51 skills/trades at this competition. The next WorldSkills Competition is scheduled in Kazan, Russia in August 2019.
