International Conference of Academic Institutions (ICAI-2022) launched in Ahmedabad

Today International Conference of Academic Institutions (ICAI-2022) and ICAI-2022 Exhibition in Ahmedabad at Science City was Launched.

In thie exhibition academic institutions including Gujarat University, Babasaheb Ambedkar University, Hemchandracharya University, Charotar University, MS University, Nirma University, National Forensic Science University, IIT Gandhinagar, Rashtriya Raksha Shakti University, Children’s University, University , Gujarat Biotechnology University, Gujarat National Law University, PRL as well as Somnath Sanskrit University took part.

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel unveiled Student Startup and Innovation Policy (SSIP 2.0) on the occasion of inauguration of International Conference of Academic Institutions (ICAI-2022) held at Science City in presence of state Education Minister Jitu Vaghani. This policy was implemented by Department of Education for five years from the year 2017 which is coiming to an end on 10-01-2022.

Features and characteristics of the policy launched by Chief Minister are as follows: Establishment of Functional Innovation and Incubation Centers in all the universities of the State under Student Startup and Innovation Policy (SSIP 2.0) covering at least 1000 Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) and 10,000 schools in the state. 10,000 Proof-of-Concepts (PoCs) Developed by Students for awareness of 50 lakh Students for Innovation and Entrepreneurship.

Incentives given by Department of Education to achieve the goal is as follows:

The state universities to setup incubation center and promoting functional innovation for next 5 years can get a maximum help of 5 Rs crores upto 5 years.

IP filing support for innovators and startups (Up to Rs. 75,000 for local filing and up to Rs. 1.5 lakhs for filing in other countries)

For startup / innovation maximum Financial assistance to startups upto Rs. 10 lakhs for hosting Seed Grant Universities / Institutions / Incubators Awareness Programs / Boot camp / Seminar Conferences under Open Innovation Challenge Program Support upto Rs 2.5 lakhs to students and startups

Achievements of Student Startup and Innovation Policy (SSIP):

186 institutes / universities of the state are included as SSIP grant institutions. To date, 2132 startups have been started by students.
As many as 1122 patents have been filed by the students. 6276 Proofs of Concept Projects (Pocs / Prototypes) have been created by the students. As many as 10 lakhs students benefitted with awareness programs under ssIP in last 5 years.

SSIPis the only policy across country that aims to nurture and support large-scale student innovators and startups.

In last two years, Gujarat has been at No. 1 in the nationwide startup performance rankings.


In this ranking, the Government of India has specially acknowledged and appreciated efforts and contributions made by the Department of Education through SSIP.
