News by Darshana Jamindar

Today, India has marked history with a very significant achievement of successfully entering into Martian Orbit through Mars Mission, of Indian Space Research Organisation. India could attain Martian Orbit of red planet in its maiden attempt.Mangalyaan, has arrived in orbit after a 300 days marathon covering over 670 million kilometres (420 million miles).
Today morning, ISRO’s Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM) spacecraft started orbiting the red planet at 7.47am, but it was only 12 minutes due to a time delay in radio signals travelling the 680 million km  that scientists at Isro Telemetry, Tracking and Command Network,ISTRAC in Bangalore, could express joy as Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally witnessed the historic event live in Bangalore.

Through its journey since November 5, 2013 when PSLV-C25 lifted off from Sriharikota with the spacecraft in its nosecone, MOM has had a perfect journey.  First crucial test was done when liquid engine that were dormant for 300 days were turned on for 4 seconds.
Nasa’s JPL representatives greete ISRO “Good Luck, MOM! From Your JPL Family !”
ISRO will be the fourth space agency after National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) of the US, Russian Federal Space Agency (RFSA) and European Space Agency to have undertaken a mission to Mars.
Earlier, the European, US and Russian probes have managed to orbit or land on the Red Planet, but after several attempts. Of the total 51 missions to Mars, only 21 were successful.
