On Sunday, 117 people from Gujarat were tested positive for swine flu that recorded the highest number of fresh cases in a day so far. With increasig H1N1 cases have become a great cause of concern as the deadly virus has been targeting people randomly. Cases where a patient’s family members contracted the deadly virus this season are nominal. 47 fresh cases found in Ahmedabad on Sunday. “In very rare cases, we have found family members contracting swine flu. This virus generally catches close family members. And that’s why all family members of patients have been under strict surveillance to detect the virus at the earliest,” said medical superintendent, Civil Hospital.
Expressing his concern, Health Commissioner said that individuals with weaker immunity have been affected by the virus. “Though the spread of the infection among family members is nominal this season, we are not taking any chance with the safety of people. All family members of swine flu patients have been kept under observation,” he added.A medical officer, requesting anonymity, said: “The changing pattern reflects that the virus has gained wide access. It can be hidden in anyone at any place. This has made search of medical officers all the more difficult as they don’t know who will be the next victim.”
Ten persons died due to swine flu in Gujarat on Sunday. Two deaths each were reported in Kutch, Ahmedabad and Surat districts, while one fatality each was recorded in Vadodara, Dahod, Narmada and Surendranagar districts. While Ahmedabad had 46 new cases, Surat, Kutch and Vadodara registered 17, 16 and eight cases on Sunday. Bhavnagar too registered 4 new cases. With 81 deaths out of 744 cases, the state has registered 10.7 per cent mortality.
