Today Union Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu announced on selection of 20 cities Smart City scheme for first year funding.
The 20 cities of first phase are as follows:
Bhubneswar
Pune
Jaipur
Surat
Kochi
Ahmedabad
Jabalpur
Vishakhapattanam
Solapur
Dhavangiri
Indore
New Delhi Municipal Corporation(NDMC)
Coimbatore
Kakinada
Udaipur
Guwahati
Ludhiana
Bhopal
Chennai and
Belgavi.
Surat and Ahmedabad two cities of Gujarat qualified for the first round of funding under central government’s Smart City scheme. Surat is ranked fourth and Ahmedabad is ranked sixth under smart city development.
Surat will require to raise Rs 350 crores through convergence and Rs 750 crores from Public Private Partnership(PPP) mode.
Cities of those states that could not qualify in this round will be given fast-track opportunity to submit upgraded proposals by April 15th.
