Gujarat Vote Counting arrangements for Lok Sabha Elections 2024

Today CEO Chief Electoral Officer for Gujarat P Bharathi held a press briefing on process of vote-counting, just on previous day of Lok Sabha Elections 2024 results.CEO Bharathi said that vote counting for Lok Sabha election and Gujarat assembly by-election for 5 seats will be done tomorrow on June 4 from 8 am in the morning. Arrangements for counting of votes have been made, with deployment of staff comprising of 56 counting observers, 30 election officials, and 175 assistant election officials. Additionally, 615 assistant officials are alloted duty of Electronically Transmitted Postal Ballot System (ETPBS) and Postal Ballot. First and second randomisation of vote-counting staff has already done, and third randomisation will take place tomorrow at 5 am on June 4 in presence of Observers, who will all report at designated venues. Randomisation refers to deployment of counting staff in such a way that no person is assigned duties in a constituency where they were posted or where they reside.

Only ECI-authorised officers, observers, on-duty staff officers, candidates, their election agents, and counting agents will be permitted to enter counting center. Media with written permission from the ECI will also be permitted to the premises.Strong Room (room for counting votes) will be opened in morning in front of Review Officers (RO), Assistant Review Officers (ARO), candidates, or their authorised representatives and Observers appointed by ECI. Later EVMs and postal ballots will be taken out and brought to the counting hall and counting of votes will begin.

As far as security is concerned, 3-tier security system has been set up at all counting centres by deploying local police, SRPF, and CAPF teams. Carrying of Electronic devices such as mobile, tablets or laptops to counting centre has been banned except for observers of the commission. ROs, AROs, or Counting Supervisors may carry mobiles to the counting centre with prior permission as required for the counting process. Mobile phones cannot be used anywhere in the counting centre complex except in media centre and public communication room set up in each counting centre. Media centre has been set up in the committee room on 4th floor of block no.1 of new secretariat for media staff at Gujarat level to get details of the election results.Election results live can be watched on the day of counting or by logging onto ECI’s official website or by accessing Mobile App.
