Today in Gandhinagar, Health Minister of Gujarat,Nitin Patel announed that Medical Council of India, MCI has approved quota of 150 seats for MBBS course in Junagadh and Himmatnagar based medical colleges respectively. MCI made inspection of both the colleges on May 5 and today submitted its inspection report. The Government of Gujarat has submitted proposal before Union Health department for further approval. As soon as the permission from centre arrives, the admission process will begin on these 300 MBBS seats. Permission for two medical colleges granted to facilitate Gujarat students with medical education in Gujarat itself.
Presently, Gujarat has 2930 medical seats for MBBS course. With 2 more medical colleges in Gujarat total number of seats will rise to 3230. In year 2005-06 the state had only 1525 seats for medical students. In 10 years, seats have been doubled. Gujarat government has spent Rs 250 crores for 2 new medical colleges at Junagadha nd Himmatnagar. It had sought MCI’s permission to start medical course at both these colleges in acedemic year 2015-16.
