Recently, in the Union Budget NDA government had announced development of new airports in Tier-I and Tier-II cities, which was further confirmed by Airports Authority of India. Presently,Gujarat has one international airport at Ahmedabad, two domestic airports in Vadodara and Surat besides small airports in Rajkot, Jamnagar, Bhuj, Bhavnagar and Diu. Moreover, union civil aviation ministry has identified six places including Jamnagar, Bhavnagar, Kandla, Keshod, Daman and Diu in and around the state to promote regional air connectivity . The purpose is to develop, Small airports that can handle scheduled flights on a regular basis . These places currently do have airstrips but they handle very few flights and are planned to handle 70-80 seater ATR aircraft and Boeing 737s and will have frequency of up to 15-16 flights.
