On Tuesday, Gujarat government has announced a Rs 300-crore relief package for Amreli, 3 weeks after the district was ravaged by floods caused by torrential rains on June 24 in Gujarat.
The relief package includes parts of Rajkot, Bhavangar, Gir-Somnath and flood-hit areas of central and south Gujarat. “The government has decided to allocate Rs 150 crores in addition to Rs 150 crores from the National Calamity Relief Fund (NCRF),” said state minister Nitin Patel and government spokesman.
Gujarat Chief minister has decided to provide additional financial assistance from the state budget in addition to norms set under NCRF, he said. “The compensation for soil erosion has been doubled to Rs 25,000 per hectare for small farmers who have lost up to three inches of soil layer. For big farmers, who have more than two hectares land, the compensation would be Rs 50,000,” said Patel. Earlier, there was no assistance available for farmers who owned more than one hectare land.
