After a dull show, the southwest monsoon started retreating from Gujarat on Tuesday. The state received 81% rain this monsoon.IMD Gujarat director Jayanta Sarkar said, “The southwest monsoon has withdrawn from some parts of the state. The withdrawal line passes through Dharchula, Etawah, Guna, Ratlam, Ahmadabad and Dwarka.” According to the IMD, northerly winds are prevailing at lower levels over the region. As a result, only clear sky will prevail in the city from Wednesday.
Ahmedabad last received showers on September 21, with rains lashing most parts of the city for a couple of days. This monsoon, the city received just three spells of rain.The state, according to the revenue department, has received 647.59 mm rainfall against the annual average of 797 mm. The state control room data showed that the state received 172.14 mm rain in June, 321.01 mm in July, 34.54 mm in August and 119.90 mm in September.
Among districts, Banaskantha registered the maximum rainfall at 929 mm against its average of 570 mm. Vadodara district was at the bottom with 38.50% of its annual average. The district received only 344 mm rainfall against its annual average of 892 mm. According to the state control room, Kutch and North Gujarat received 100% of their annual rainfall. However, the east-central Gujarat received just 58.50% of the region’s annual average of 781 mm. South Gujarat, which receives about 1,356 mm rainfall, recorded just 66.63% of its annual quota of rain.
