Gujarat Police’s GP Drashti project to deploy Drones for public facilitation said DGP Sahay

Gujarat Police has come up with GP Drashti Gujarat Police – Drone Response and Aerial Surveillance Tactical Interventions. In this project, drones will reach crime scene faster than PCR Vans.

Gujarat DGP Director General of Police Vikas Sahay stated that while the PCR van system is currently available across Gujarat, it takes time to reach the scene of an incident. In an effort to reduce response time and enable immediate action, Gujarat Police has decided to deploy Drones. In this project, in case of incident reported to Police Control Room, both the PCR Van and Drone base station will be alerted simultaneously.

A Drone and PCR Van will be dispatched to the incident site. In 10-day long Pilot Project held in Surat and Ahmedabad, it was observed that Drones reached the scene in less than half the time taken by PCR Vans—sometimes within just two to two and a half minutes. Video recorded by the Drone will be transmitted in Real-Time to cops at the Drone base station, allowing them to assess severity of the situation and deploy the necessary police force accordingly.

After success of the Pilot Project, the procurement of 18 Drones has begun. Till now, 8 Drones have been acquired. In phase 1, this system will be implemented in 33 police stations across Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, and Rajkot—cities with relatively higher crime rates. A 6-day training program has been organized at Karai Gandhinagar. Once training is completed, the project will first be launched in 8 police stations in Ahmedabad. Subsequently, additional Drones will be deployed in Vadodara, Rajkot, and Surat.
