Gujarat high court observes roads can be repaired for VVIPs and not for common man
Today in Ahmedabad, Gujarat High Court slaps AMC Ahmedabad Municiapl Corporation for not following order to repair damaged roads.
High Court observed that for VVIP visit how damaged roads can be repaired with problem of budget, tendering or rain. HC added why same priority is not accorded in repairing damaged roads for common man.
HC has slapped AMC and state government for damaged roads.
High Court ordered AMC to submit weekly report on status of road repairs. It will also monitor the quality of road repair whether adequate amount of coal tar, gravel and concrete etc is used.
HC questioned why only newly constructed roads are washed away not old roads like Ashram Road and CG Road are intact after so much of rain in the city and after so many years of making.
Due to poor condition of road and pothole, every week lot of accidents are taking place in the city.

Today in Ahmedabad, based on a PIL Public Interest Litigation was filed in Gujarat High Court over poor condition of roads Gujarat High Court orders AMC Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation to stop Contractors’ payment and asked them to repair the roads.

Gujarat high court has shown unhappiness with AMC Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation on the poor condition of city roads after rains and criticized it for turning deaf ears to people’s complaints.In response to a PIL Public Interest Litigation, HC gave orders to AMC to make sure that proper roads were constructed and a proper monitoring mechanism is created, a bench of Justice M R Shah and Justice B N Karia asked questions against the administration’s functioning style.The judges sought a report on the condition of the state’s roads by 10th August and issued notices to the state government and AMC both . The judges also asked the petitioner to make the city mayor, municipal commissioner and the standing committee chairman as party respondents in the PIL in their personal capacities. On plea by petitioner’s advocate that people are getting injured due to potholes and uncovered manholes, the judges said that there is nobody answerable, and nobody is liable for the situation. People’s complaints fall on deaf ears. The judges felt that the time has come to pass strict directions. People die and they do nothing about it. AMC puts people’s lives in danger.
They pulled up AMC for blaming torrential rains for the poor road condition, “Do you think that it rains only in India and nowhere in the world? How do the roads remain intact elsewhere? 80% of the roads are damaged and the government is blaming God?”
AMC blacklist 3 Contractors for poor roads in Ahmedabad
After heavy rains in Ahmedabad city, most of the roads were washed away. There were ditches and potholes on the road leading to road accidents and traffic jam. It also washed away pre-monsoon plan of AMC at large.
Today finally, AMC Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has made announcement to blacklist 3 big contractors for poor quality road making work. There are actually 8 contractors empanelled by AMC for road consructor and repairs, out of which 3 contractors were getting majority of the work.
Ahmedabad Mayor Gautam Shah had assured of stern action against people responsible for poor condition of roads. Even, actions against many AMC Officials and other contractors would be taken added shah.
There were complain of poor quality road almost from every zone of the city.
3 Blacklist contractors would carry out road repairs at no extra cost. There were already granted with contracts worth crores of rupees.

Congress protest against AMC office over poor roads
In Ahmedabad, Gujarat Congress partymen protested in front of AMC Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation alleging comprehensive corruption in road making and repairing work.
Congress partymen shouted slogan against AMC and displaying banners and placards.
After heavy rains in Ahmedabad, most of the roads in city had turned from bad to worst, leading to daily accidents, traffic jam and potholes everywhere.
Troubled with the pathetic situation, Corporator cum businessman Rohit Patel wrote a letter to PMO. In turn PMO asked Gujarat state administration to mend the roads on utmost priority.
