Gujarat government cleared Prohibition Amendment Bill; jail term upto 10 years for liquor trafficing

Recently, Governor of Gujarat Om Prakash Kohli cleared Prohibition Amendment Bill passed in Gujarat Assembly.

Gujarat Home Minister Pradipsinh Jadeja said that stringent provisions have been made into the prohibition bill by increasing penalty upto 10 years of jail term in place of existing 3 years in case of liquor trafficing. Also, penalty upto Rs 5 lakhs has been imposed.

As per amended section 68, for help in running liquor den, 10 years of jail term and penalty upto Rs 1 lakh.

For unruly behavior, use of abusive language after consuming liqour would amount to jail term from 1 year to 3 years and a penalty, in place of previous penalty of 1 to 3 months of jail term and pernalty of Rs 200 to Rs 500.

For help in escaping would amount to 7 years of jail term and a penalty upto Rs 1 lakh.
