Gujarat gets comprehensive rains

Reports of comprehensive rains from variours parts of southern parts of Gujarat state are coming including major cities like Ahmedabad, Vadodara and Valsad.

In Ahmedabad also heavy rains lashed in the city. Reports of water logging from south of Ahmedabad including Maninagar, Khokhara, Bapunagar and CTM have come. Even, western parts including Vadaj, Sola, Jivraj , Jodhpur , Satellite also experince water logging. Under pass of Shahi Buag, Vadaj and Maninagar were closed. School and Colleges remained closed in the city due to heavy rains on previous night.

It is a failure of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation,AMC’s pre-monsoon plan. AMC’s helplines for pre-monsoon plan are down.

Many cities were marooned with low lying areas getting water logged. Valsad leading to blockage of national highway number 8 connecting Mumbai and Ahmedabad. At least two passenger trains from Valsad to Dahod and Viramgam were cancelled due to heavy rains. Vadodara had a  heavy rainfall for at least two hours between 4 pm and 6 pm, causing waterlogging lasting several hours throwing life out of balance. Valsad district authorities claims evacuating around 150 people from two villages-Tindi and Umargaon villages which were flooded, though they were rehabilitated after water receded. “At around 11 am, the NH 8 was flooded at Sarondi village near Valsad because of which a traffic jam was created. The situation remained so for around an hour.

Valsad received around 12-15 inch rainfall during this period. Western Railways also cancelled two passenger trains from Valsad and at least a dozen trains were running two to six hours late. Vadodara received 38 mm rainfall between 4 and 6 pm. Shops remained closed and people stayed indoors. Several lanes in Vadodara city’s most areas in the city including Raopura, Machhipeeth, Nava Bazaar, Alkapuri, OP Road, Akota, Genda Circle, Karelibaug saw water logging. The railway underpass connecting Alkapuri to Sayajigunj was water logged within a few minutes of heavy showers.
