This was surprising because it’s a period of peak winter, and rainfall is not expected at all. After 2.00 AM on-wards it was light rain, but by 2.30 it converted to moderate rainfall. Ahmedabad was not the only place in Gujarat experiencing rainfall on Thursday.
Many parts of coastal and mainland Saurashtra, central Gujarat and north Gujarat also experienced unseasonal shower. According to Meteorological Centre in Ahmedabad has in its forecast predicted possibility of light rain/thundershower at isolated places in the districts of Gujarat region, Saurashtra, Kutch and Diu, Daman, Dadra Nagar Haveli till 8.30 am on 4th of March, followed by dry weather in same areas from 8.30 am on 4th of March to 8.30 am on 7th of March.IMD Gujarat office attributes the rain spell to cyclonic circulation over Saurashtra-Kutch and adjoining north-east Arabian sea which now lies over Gujarat and adjoining south Rajasthan extending upto 1.5 km above mean sea level.
