Today evening in Ahmedabad, Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel laid foundation stone of long-awaited Metro Rail project.
CM said this project would provide seamless, affordable integrated transportation to people of Ahmedabad. After BRTS, this is another endeavour to provide fast transportation to common man in growing city of Ahmedabad.
Updating on the prominent features, it is Driver-less system,communication based train control system and has a feature of smart card ticketing.
First phase of Metro project will coverĀ in East-West corridor ( from Vastral to Thaltej) and in North-South corridor ( from APMC Market to Motera Stadium).
Anandiben Patel added that I am privileged to initiate this project which is a dream project of PM Narendra modi from the time it was conceptualized when he was CM of Gujarat. More than Rs 11,000 crore has been allocated for a stretch of 6 kms. Project will be completed by 2016.
Other ministers Saurabh Patel, Nitin Patel, Pradipsinh Jadeja and Ahmedabad Mayor Minakshiben Patel were seen at the function.
Rain in Ahmedabad had some effect on the function. Traffic jam scenes between Vastral and Rabari colony were seen due to stone foundation function.
