Gujarat government has taken decision on compulsory voting in local swaraj polls in Gujarat and its implementation has been taken. The notification has been issued by the Department of Urban Development and Panchayat in connection of voting. Now, Gujarat became the first state in the country to have compulsory voting. The Ordinance has a provision to depost Municipal and panchayat officials who do not vote except in unavoidable circumstances. The issue pending since 2009 has now been resolved.
