Today, Gujarat was awarded for outstanding performance in promotion of Renewable Energy during the period 1st April 2010 to 31st March 2014 in Gujarat. Saurabhbhai Patel, Gujarat Power & Energy Minister received the award from Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi at the RE-INVEST- 1st Renewable Energy Global Investors Meet & Expo which was inaugurated by the Prime Minister in Delhi.
The citation read Gujarat has added 2553 MW of renewable power capacity. The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy recognizes Gujarat’s great efforts that promote energy security, energy equity, energy accessibility & sustainability in the country, the citation added.
Government of Gujarat has been taking proactive steps in increasing renewable energy generation. The total Renewable Power capacity has been increased to 4436 MW by 2014 end, constituting 18.77 percent of the total power generation capacity of the State.
After receiving the award, Shri Saurbhbhai Patel stated that promotion of renewable energy and increasing its share in the total energy basket of the country is necessary for the long term sustainability of the energy sector. Therefore, the target of Government of India for adding 100000 MW of solar and 50000 MW of wind generation capacity by the year 2020 is in the right direction.
