A moment of joy and pride for entire India including Gujarat. As Gujarat’s pride and cultural heritage Garba, was awarded a certificate by UNESCO declaring it an ‘Intangible Cultural Heritage’.
The honor was announced to Garba on 6 December 2023 by UNESCO. On 22 March 2024 Director General of UNESCO Mrs. Audrey Azole formally presented the certificate to Ministers Harsh Sanghavi and Shri Praful Pansheriya on behalf of Gujarat at Paris.
With the inclusion of Gujarat’s Garba, now India’s festivals, fairs, traditions, regional dances, a total 15 cultural heritages have been included in the list of UNESCO’s ‘Intangible Heritage’.
An ardent worshiper of Adyashakti and Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi ever since he was then Chief Minister of Gujarat has been constantly striving to expose cultural heritage of the state on global platform.
Vibrant Navratri festival launched in Gujarat as an innovative initiative under his guidance has given Garba a worldwide recognition and the Navratri festival has become the longest running folk festival in the world. Garba being recognized globally by UNESCO is a proud moment that realizes goal of “Vikas Bhi, Virasat Bhi” of Prime Minister Modi.
