Under Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897 Ahmedabad Municipal Commissioner Vijay Nehra makes it compulsory to wear face mask in the city in wake of Coronavirus outbreak effective from tomorrow morning 6 am.
Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897 is a law which was first enacted to tackle bubonic plague in Mumbai in during British rule in India. The law is framed for containment of epidemics by providing special powers that are required for the implementation of containment measures to control the spread of the disease.
Violators will be charged with Rs 5000 penalty and 3 years of jail said AMC Commissioner.
Ahmedabad is one the hotpsots of Coronavirus with 266 Coronavirus positive cases and some the most affected areas have been cluster quarantined in public interest and to avoid further transmission of COVID19 virus.
In Gujarat, 25 more COVID19 cases were reported in Gujarat (23 in Ahmedabad & 2 in Anand), taking the total number of positive coronavirus cases in the state to 493. One more COVID19 related death also reported in Ahmedabad as per Gujarat Health Department.
