Virtual Sessions, discussions and other events mark World Earth Day Celebrations at the school
Ahmedabad, 23rd April, 2021: In line with its motto of ‘Shaping Glocal Learners’, Kalorex Group-run Delhi Public School (DPS), Bopal made yet another effort to make its students be mindful and live consciously. Marking the World Earth Day on Friday – April 23, Kalorex Foundation collaborated with Yi (Young Indians) to host an insightful virtual session on ‘Environmentally-Conscious Living’. World Earth Day is observed every year on April 22.
Renowned environment educators, Lima Rosalind who runs the Green Future Foundation, along with Dr R K Nair of Forest Creators addressed the students. Mr Sameer Patel, Chair, Climate Change and Mr Chinmay Bhuta, Co-chair, Climate Change, moderated and supported the session.
The session educated students not just about their role but how little measures could help contribute towards reduction of Green House Emissions and reducing individual carbon footprints.
Ms Rosalind spoke on how one can identify and reduce carbon footprints. Citing the example of consuming imported fruits, she said, “Consumption of fruits which are imported from other countries contributes to one’s carbon foot print because the consumer is part of the chain of procuring a fruit from a foreign country, its storage and packaging, its transportation costs too. On the other hand, consuming a locally grown fruit that is equally nutritious is a better alternative for it is climate conscious and promotes local economy.”
Dr R K Nair, in his address, highlighted the dire need for conserving water, increasing ground water levels and planting more and more trees which contribute to biodiversity than ornamental plants.
The session also highlighted the importance of a circular economy through reduce, reuse and recycle. It saw participation from students, parents and teachers of DPS-Bopal.
Several other activities were also organised for students of various age-groups, virtually, including poster making, singing, Earth Day e-card making, and discussions on the role of students to make a change and provide a voice to this emerging environmental consciousness.
In a virtual assembly, the students of Prerna, a centre for Special Education by Calorx Foundation, took a pledge to be an environmentally responsible citizens by work in harmony for the sustainability and betterment of the world community.
