Today in Gandhinagar a delegation from fourth Dhamma Yatra met Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel during their visit to India.The Mekong-Ganga Dhamma Yatra, which started in Bangkok, Thailand, is visiting India from December 2 to 10.
Aim of the Yatra is let the people of Thailand express their gratitude to India for the gift of Buddhism and to thank the Government of India, especially Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi, for sending the holy relics of Lord Buddha and his two chief disciples, ‘Arahant Sariputta’ and ‘Moggallana’, to Thailand.
CM Bhupendra Patel, reflecting the Buddhist principles of peace, harmony, and goodwill, invited the delegation to offer a group peace prayer during their meeting. The CM also recalled about the International Buddhist Conference organized by PM Narendra Modi in 2009, when he was a Chief Minister of Gujarat, which was attended by His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
The representatives of this Yatra met Chief Minister after visiting the Monastery and Prerna School of Vadnagar, the hometown of Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi. CM Patel requested the influencers and YouTubers to come to Gujarat in large numbers and become an inspiration to ‘people to people connect’, so that the people of the whole world, including Thailand, become more familiar with the historical and visual Buddhist heritage of India and Gujarat. On the occasion, in presence of the Chief Minister, an MoU was signed between Gujarat Tourism Corporation and Bodhgaya Vijayalaya-980 organization for mutual cooperation for conservation-enrichment and development of Buddhist tangible and intangible heritage in Gujarat and for global promotion-dissemination of places of Buddhist circuit of Gujarat.
