Budget session of Gujarat Assembly begins from today in Gandhinagar. The state budget will be presented on March 3 tomorrow. It is often seen that MLAs in the legislature forget to speak during the debate.
At such times, the list of non parliamentary words and expressions announced by the Gujarat Legislative Assembly is also useful to the MLAs. In 2018, a special book was published by the Gujarat Legislative Assembly and a list of words and expressions declared non parliamentary in the Legislative Assembly from 1960 to 2017 was released. Over a period of 57 years, 439 words were declared non parliamentary which cannot be used by legislators in the legislature.
Tomorrow Budget will be tabled in Gujarat Assembly by state finance minister Kanu Desai. FM Desai briefed media about proceedings of Budget Session held today.
First state assembly had 132 members
When the Legislative Assembly was formed for the first time after the establishment of the state of Gujarat in 1960, the number of members was 132. The number of members increased from 154 in 1962 to 168 in 1967. The current number is 182 which was increased in 1975. Before independence, a 38-member assembly was started in Bhavnagar in 1918. The number of members was increased to 55 in 1941 with 33 members being elected. This was also the practice during Gaekwad government in 1908.
