“These WiFi hotspots are being set up as part of the Digital India initiative of the government,” said principal general manager, Ahmedabad Telecom District.
“These 2 public places have been selected as a pilot project for creating free wi-fi zones. We are currently testing this service at both these locations,” PGM added. Though the official did not committed any schedule when the services will be launched for public, BSNL officials said that the project could start around Diwali this year.
BSNL currently has 3.25 lakh landlines and 5.88 lakh mobile customers in Ahmedabad city. “We have also commissioned four NGN (Next Generation Network) exchanges at four locations in Ahmedabad that has larger capacity, more speed, and is capable of integrating mobile and landline services on the same platform. Approximately, 3000 connections have already been diverted to NGN platform ,out of the 66,000 lines to be provided in Phase-I in Ahmedabad,” PGM added.
BSNL has also established a robust cloud platform to cater to the ever growing demand of cloud services. Some of the important customers having the BSNL could services are Gruh Finance, AMC, AUDA, Tourism Corporation of Gujarat, Jyoti CNC Automation Ltd, BPCL, Air India, Kandla Port Trust, Airport Authority of India, SBI and others.
