BJP captures Thasra municipality, wins total 94 seats unopposed before local polls

In Gujarat, ruling party BJP has got majority in the Thasra municipality, Kheda district by capturing a total of 94 seats in various local bodies unopposed before the polls slated to be held in two phases on November 22 and 29. BJP sources said it has won 6 of the total 14 seats supposed to go for by-polls in the 21 seat Thasra municipality without any opposition. With this the party strength in the municipality has reached 11, the figure for simple majority. The party has won 2 seats (one each in Vadodara and Surat) of municipal corporations while 6 in district panchayats, 53 in taluka panchayats and 26 in district panchayats unopposed. It has also got 8 seats in various local bodies (including Thasra) where by-polls are to be held on November 29. The local elections in 6 Municipal Corporations of Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Bhavnagar, Jamnagar, Surat and Rajkot would take place on November 22 while those for 31 district panchayats, 230 taluka panchayats, 56 municipalities would be held on November 29. The vote counting would be held on December 2.
