The Gujarat government is all set to introduce a Common Universities Act to tighten its control over its public varsities.
The draft of the Common Universities Bill has already been deliberated over by the state government and approved by the education ministry. It is most likely to be tabled in the upcoming monsoon session of the Assembly.
Though the National Education Policy 2020 has triggered the Common Universities Act, the indiviual university acts have consumed its utility.
Currently, in Monsoon session of Gujarat Legislative Assembly, Common University Bill 2023 to Be Presented. Ruling party and opposition are confronting with each other on clearing Bill on Common University Act. The Common University Act was first introduced in 2006, but when there was protest against it due to which it was kept on hold. Again in 2009 it could not be passed and was dropped. Now the government is again presenting the Bill in 2023.
