Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel worship Narmada water as Sardar Sarovar Narmada Dam overflowed its full capacity.
Sardar Sarovar Dam has reached its maximum level of 138.68 meters for the fifth time in a row after it was dedicated to the nation in 2017.
This year, 10,012 million cubic meters overflowed with 51 days of overflow starting from August 11.
Water level of Sardar Sarovar Dam of Narmada Yojana brought water revolution and agriculture revolution in Gujarat as it reached its maximum level of 138.68 meters (455 feet). Total water storage capacity of 138.68 meter surface of the dam is 9460 million cubic meters. CM Bhupendra Patel worshiped overflowing Narmada by reaching Sardar Sarovar dam site Ekta Nagar in Vijay Muhurat on today afternoon. This year Sardar Sarovar Dam started overflowing from August 11 due to good rains in rainy season. Till now this reservoir has overflowed for 51 days and a total of 10,012 million cubic meters i.e., 8,177 MAF of water has received due to overflow. 1343 MW of electricity and 6283 crore units of electricity have been generated. Bhupendra Patel offered drinking water to 10,014 villages, 183 cities and 7 municipal areas in the state, providing drinking water to 4 crore people in the state.
The reservoir of this project overflowed its full surface and worshiped the water amidst chanting in a joyful atmosphere. Prime Minister Narendrabhai Modi gave permission to complete remaining work of Narmada Dam gate within 17 days after assuming office as PM. The state government has also undertaken this work and completed all the work before 9 months including work of 30 gates. PM Modi dedicated Sardar Sarovar Dam to the nation on his birthday, 17th September 2017. Since its inauguration in 2017, the dam has been filled to its maximum level 5 times so far.
